Staudt Drum-Playing Clown Automaton Circa 1898

One of three musical Clown Automatons we have available, made in 1898 by Georg Leonhard Staudt of Nuremberg, Germany.

This short-lived German company produced toys that are now sought after by collectors and museums worldwide.  

Considering its 120 plus years of age, the condition is excellent, with the original clothing and built-in music box still in situ. 

This finely hand-painted tinplate toy was originally designed to work in conjunction with a stationary steam engine, but also can be operated manually.
