These intricate and small toys were known as "Penny Toys" as they were normally sold by street vendors on trays at entrances to parks or on busy street corners for the lowest currency denomination of that particular country - A penny in the U.K., 1 cent in the U.S., 1 pfennig in Germany, and so on - Today, they're worth much more than their weight in gold...
This beautifully lithographed tinplate "Penny Toy" London Open-Top Double Decker Bus was made in Nuremberg, Germany by the firm, J. Meyer.
An enormous amount of care and attention went into this pretty little toy - Just look at the remarkable passengers on both decks all huddled together.
Length 7, 5 cm.
